The skin is the biggest organ of the body and is essential in protecting other vital parts. This makes it important to keep it healthy and beautiful. Not only because of aesthetic reasons, but also because it’s an indicator of the body’s overall wellness. Every choice you make, from your diet, the environment you’re exposed to, and even your emotions, can affect how the skin looks. Below are simple tips on how to keep it healthy and beautiful.

Watch out for your diet

If you want to keep a healthy skin, make sure to watch out for your diet. Eat foods that are rich in vitamin C and avoid those that contain lots of carbohydrates and fats. This will not only work well for a short period of time, but is also a good long term investment as you age. Changing what you eat as early as not will help with the health of your skin, so go for those that are rich in antioxidants like fruits, vegetables, and fish.

While some beauty products contain vitamin E and C which are good for the skin, it will be more effective if you eat the vitamins and let them work from the inside. It can also get your skin protected against the damages caused by the sun, and contribute to reversing any signs of aging such as skin discoloration and wrinkles.

Right exercise and rest

Exercise is good in every way, from burning away excess and unhealthy fats, to benefiting the health of the skin. By working out regularly, you can improve the body’s circulation and help nourish the skin as more nutrients and oxygen are brought in the blood to aid in the production of collagen. After sweating it out, just make sure that you wash your face with a mild cleanser to avoid clogging of the pores.

Getting a good night’s rest is also good for the skin. If you don’t get enough sleep, it can be reflected on the skin: from the dark circles formed under your eyes, puffiness, and even pale skin. Make sure that you get around seven to eight hours of sleep every night to keep your skin in tip top shape.

Keep the sun off your skin

The UV rays from the skin can damage the skin in ways we didn’t even think were possible. Studies show that 90% of known skin damages is mainly caused by the sun. If you don’t get protected enough, there is also the risk of getting skin cancer. So always protect the skin with sunblock, especially those containing titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. Those with 30 or more SPF are best to use, together with long sleeves or wide – brimmed hats. Avoid going out in the sun at times between 10AM to 2PM, where the rays are at their strongest.

The skin can change drastically over the years and as you age, the body can no longer keep up with producing enough collagen to make you look younger. It’s up to you to do remedial measures to avoid aging at an early age and to make sure that you age gracefully when you get older.
